Sheri Larson Story

Come on, good. big pull. There you go.

Once she sets her mind to something, she's a go getter.

I grew up in a family that didn't participate in sports at all.

My heart rate's still way up.

I was in band, I played the piano, I was in choir.

Let's start with doing some pull-ups.

I was 52 years old, and the first thing he did was take me into the free weight area, where there were not 52-year-old women.

Here we go. Nice and tight.

I use to see with some of these guys that look at her, they're just kind of shaking their heads, like, you kidding me?

Once we started having grandkids, we decided that we needed to make some changes.

Nutrition was her big obstacle. That was one thing that she was lacking in with her training.

I've never had shoulders before . I never had arms before. I have shoulders now, and I have my arms, and I have traps, and it's pretty cool. It makes me feel good, mentally, as much as physically.

We just started doing the three main lifts in power lifting. And especially in the deadlift, I just noticed her weights just progressing at a rapid rate.

I'm like, oh my gosh. Here I have a 55-year-old woman that has grandkids that's lifting this kind of weight. And I thought, we should be able to do something with this. So we got to show it off in a power lifting meet.

I laughed. I laughed. I didn't think I could do it. I didn't think I could do it, and I thought he was nuts. I decided to sign up for the Women of Steel.

Sheri asked me, you are going to be there, aren't you? I'm like, I thought that was really a dumb question. Of course I'm going to be there at your meet.

Remember to explode, explode.

I really try to be just in the moment and not think about too much of anything, because I won't let him tell me what the weight is.

So I never told her, not even the last lift of her deadlift. So she didn't even know she tried the state record until I told her how much weight was on the bar.

All right, Sheri.

The hardest thing for me has been to realize that really, my age is not a factor.

I've really developed lot more confidence than I've ever had in my life.

Nailed it. 259, tied the record.

As I'm able to do it, I think this is what I'm going to do.

Thanks for sticking with me.

You nailed it. I knew you would.

It just feels good.
